Helmcken Falls

Helmcken Falls

Helmcken Falls in Wells Gray Park in the early morning.

The other week my wife and I stopped in Clearwater BC for two nights to have a rest from our drive around British Columbia. My camera, however was looking for an excuse to discover new photography subjects so I drove to Wells Gray Park specifically to see famous Helmcken Falls that I’d seen so many photos of but wanted to see for myself. After a 45 minute drive I parked the car, grabbed my camera bag and tripod and did the short hike to the falls. I got there in time to listen to another photographer complain that he was there at the wrong time of day. The sun would not be lighting up the falls until later in the afternoon. What I saw however was the sun rising from behind the falls lighting up the mist that mystically hung like a shroud just beyond the falls. No I didn’t capture the falls being lit up but the scene nonetheless was quite spectacular. The image was shot with my 24-105 f.4 lens and Canon 5D Mark II.

Feel the presence

Wait silently with anything, and you will discover a new phenomenon which was always there, but of which you were not alert – not aware of it. Your mind will become completely silent as you feel the presence of the ever-living existence. You will be just a part in it, just a note in the great symphony. No burden, no tension...the drop has fallen into the ocean. ~ Osho
