Life and death is the same thing. Life means spirit inhabiting a body. Death means spirit free of a container. Spirit is still the same, which is why life and death are aspects of the same thing. In fact life and death only exist because of the perspective of living on this planet. That is how we perceive existence. From the viewpoint of spirit all is the same, except that the circumstances are different.

We call this existence life because we are here among the living, growing corporeal essences of people, animals, fish, birds, insects and plants. In death we are pure energy as are the spirits of other people, animals, fish, birds, insects and plants. It is the same thing.

We instinctively fear death because of fearing the loss of all that we know. The unknown beckons and we are terrified because there are only questions and no answers. Unless you can become comfortable with The Great Mystery, with God, fear will govern your life.

We can speculate and have faith of an after life. But still we don’t really know. Some can see into the realm of spirit, but the rest either deny that existence or have to rely on someone else’s experience. Then there are religions with their countless versions of the afterlife.

When someone dies, especially if they have been close, you are totally distraught as if the loss has been a tragedy. It tears you apart and you cry and wonder why this has happened? Yet we know that everyone and everything on this planet will eventually die. We desperately miss that person because they are not here physically, yet they are still here. We often feel their presence and sometimes have conversations with loved ones. In fact they are still here just not in a body that you recognize. Feel more, think less and you will know their presence.

It is so ironic that wars are still going on with all that we know about life. We were in such a hurry to kill so many in World War I and yet virtually everyone who lived during that time is gone. Everyone now living on this planet will be gone within 120 years. Still people are killing each other because of differences in beliefs even though those beliefs may well die within coming generations. The hope of course is that those beliefs will last much longer but there are no guarantees. This planet is continuously evolving. Who knows what beliefs will exist a hundred years from now? Physically the planet continues to change. The continents are slowly drifting into new positions, volcanoes erupt, earthquakes cause damage, the polar ice caps are melting, and climate change is transforming the environment. Yet fighting rages on. Mankind seems to be incapable of living in peace even as so many wish it was so.

What will this planet look like in a thousand years? Will today’s civilizations survive? Yet all those who will die will still be here. Whereas this planet exists within a finite space, the energy of spirit lives in infinite space. There is more than enough room for all those spirits and then some.

Within the average human there are 7 billion, billion, billion atoms that make up our physical appearance. You wonder how that is possible and yet it is just like the number of spirits from once living bodies is minute when compared to the space available within infinity.

And remember infinity is not linear. Infinity means in all directions. The new Islamic group ISIS has decreed to kill anyone that stands in its way not understanding that we were put on this earth to share the space and appreciate each other. Killing alone cannot give them what they want. Dominating through fear cannot give them what they want because they are living a lie. They have convinced themselves that they are doing Allah’s work when in fact they are destroying it. One day it will catch up to them. ISIS is certainly not alone when it comes to conflict. Mankind has lived in a constant state of conflict since the beginning of civilization. Even understanding that and remembering all those who have fought and died on Remembrance Day, the fact that we all will die regardless of the conflict has made no difference. Waiting for a natural death seems all but impossible! We are in such a hurry to die!

Feel the presence

Wait silently with anything, and you will discover a new phenomenon which was always there, but of which you were not alert – not aware of it. Your mind will become completely silent as you feel the presence of the ever-living existence. You will be just a part in it, just a note in the great symphony. No burden, no tension...the drop has fallen into the ocean. ~ Osho
