The Infinite sanctum of existence

The other day I was overwhelmed with the concept of infinity. Infinity is a theory of going on forever because there is no end, something that cannot be proven but appears as if it is certainly possible. How can one prove the existence of infinity? Mathematicians describe how some formulas create numbers that can go on forever and have created a symbol to indicate that. But can one reach out to something that has no end point?

At the end of the 1990s I purchased a Mac computer. Something strange happened to the system software and the only way to get past this was to reinstall the system. Before doing this I would try clicking on the desktop icon to gain access to the files stored on the computer. When I did this I discovered another desktop with another icon. Curious, I clicked on that icon and it took me to another desktop. I did this several times each time opening another and then another desktop. I concluded that this could go on forever so I stopped. A system malfunction had created a demonstration of infinity that seemed impossible.

Infinity can be experienced. Close your eyes and see if you can see the end or beginning of your inner self. Thoughts will continuously come and go in waves and sometimes you will engage those thoughts. But if one were to simply watch these thoughts come and go you will discover gaps of inner space. Look into these gaps and you will find empty space as vast as the sky above. Infinity exists within us. If we were to travel within how far can we go? What will we experience? If what I say is true then each one of us contains infinity. Our bodies may be finite containers of arms and legs but then there is inner space that goes on forever. But are our bodies truly finite? Scientists have been trying to split the atom to see what is inside. Every time they look a little deeper they find something else. Is it possible that each atom is in fact a container for its own inner space, another universe? Is it possible that when the big bang occurred, an atom exploded as is speculated, but in fact that atom was already part of another universe and our universe is but the inner space of a single larger atom that makes up an even larger universe?

We are players within a process that is constantly changing with an infinite pattern of possibilities. Astronomers have attempted to measure the universe that is understood to be continuously expanding. So how big is it? One day the Hubble telescope was trained on a tiny black area of the sky to see what was there and it was discovered that there were billions more stars that had never before been seen. I am sure that if a more powerful telescope was developed and was focused on a small black space within that new discovery, billions of more stars would be discovered. Infinity. There is no end or beginning to the universe. Not only can we not measure our inner sanctum, we cannot measure how far we can go.

We are surrounded by infinity every way we look. Yet while on this planet we think we are finite. We are born, make families, make money, make love and war, and then die. That cycle in itself is infinite, constantly perpetuating itself. We complain about life because it isn’t perfect just like every generation before us. Yes life and society is constantly evolving and will continue to do so, but will we ever be happy within the insecurity of evolution? Infinity is what we crave because we can sense it within us. It is our true home.

Live fully in this world and do what you must, but never forget that we are but a dewdrop within an incomprehensible ocean called existence regardless of what this physical world appears to be.

Feel the presence

Wait silently with anything, and you will discover a new phenomenon which was always there, but of which you were not alert – not aware of it. Your mind will become completely silent as you feel the presence of the ever-living existence. You will be just a part in it, just a note in the great symphony. No burden, no tension...the drop has fallen into the ocean. ~ Osho
